Invention of the Contact Lens
Jun 20th
The invention of the contact lens dates back before 1877, when Adolf Fick, Eugene Kalt and August Muller made the first contact lens from glass. Leonardo da Vinci created sketches encapsulating the concept of a covering for the eye as early as 1508.
In 1801, Thomas Young decided to work on a device to help correct his own vision. What Young did was to fit a water-filled glass tube with a microscopic lens. However, it would be a number of years before anyone developed a device that could fit onto the eye itself.
So we come to that date, 1887. Fick, Kalt More >
Economic Recessions – Benefits and Causes
Jun 19th
Recessions are often said to be caused by natural variations in the business climate referred to as the “business cycle” or the “economic cycles.” These are said to occur either for no known reason, or as a result of relatively rapid growth or stagnation due to technology, invention, emotional or perceptive climate, and other factories.
More concretely, though, recessions are often caused by rapid growth, followed by a rapid decline of that growth – such as in the housing market in 2008 (huge growth, irrational growth in many ways – a side effect of rapidity – for the preceding decade, followed More >
America Needs a Privatized Innovation Plan For New Concepts in the 22nd Century
Jun 19th
Many countries are busy pouring money into R and D programs and yet, the United States, undeniably the most innovative and entrepreneurial nation in the world over the last century appears to be slipping a little, but one has to ask why? After all, with the abundance of freedom, liberty, and free-market capitalism it would seem that innovation should be a given, and automatic. This however is not how things work, the innovative spirit must be pushed, celebrated, and a population must be dedicated to that cause.
Thus, I’d like to put forth an idea which can be used locally in More >
A List Of Inventions I’m Waiting For
Jun 17th
This is a personal list of inventions I am waiting to see produced. Make them real and you’ll have at least one customer.
1. Air conditioned jacket. I noticed one hot day that the fan didn’t cool me nearly as well when I was shirt-less as when I wore a jacket or shirt and let the fan blow into it. This directed the cooling breeze all around my torso and arms (the air escapes out the bottom, collar and sleeves). A jacket with a small battery-operated fan would do the same thing. Wear a wet t-shirt underneath and the circulating air More >
John Kanzius – New Revolution Of RF Technology
Jun 8th
Born on 1944, John Kanzius, an American inventor, radio and TV engineer and one-time station owner from Erie, Pennsylvania managed to invent a method that might be used to treat cancer using Radio Frequency (RF). He also claims that he had found a way to actually “burn saltwater” during his experiments. Kanzius started to research the use of RF for cancer treatment because of his own experiences undergoing chemotherapy as he’s a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma patient himself.
Cancer Related Invention:
In Kanzius RF cancer therapy, the infected cells are tagged with small particles on the nano-scale such as single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNT) or More >
Sustainable Design at Sony
Jun 8th
Published in 1973 during the energy crisis, economist E.F. Schumacher’s collection of essays “Small is Beautiful: Economics As If People Mattered” helped established the idea of sustainable design. Thirty-some years later, as another energy crisis looms, the idea is once again gaining steam and being integrated by companies like Sony.
Spurred by the population boom and the decrease in available resources, sustainable design is the art of creating products that reduce the use of non-renewable resources and minimize environmental impact. The idea is to find new and unique ways to sustain not only our way of life – but the world More >
Medical Marijuana – Legal Uses For Pain Issues and Cancer Health Problems
Jun 4th
Dating back to ancient times, marijuana has been used to aid associated discomfort of medical ailments. Until the invention of aspirin in 1897, people used medical marijuana to relieve body pain in adults as well as alleviate nausea, depression, hemorrhoids and to treat women after they gave birth.
Nowadays, it is considered a natural alternative in the treatment of certain cancers, neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s’ disease and dementia, AIDS/HIV and chronic pain associated with arthritis, injuries and premenstrual syndrome.
In the United States it is against the law to possess, sell or buy it, as it is narcotic like cocaine and More >
