TiVo was created in the late nineties by Mike Ramsay and Jim Barton. Ramsay and Barton were originally working on a large-scale interactive television system called “Full-Service Network Project”. TiVo originated from the idea of this project.

Ramsay and Barton realized that they could scale down and make a system that was even more intelligent and at an affordable price. This affordable system would be very similar to the large-scale interactive television system. They named this new invention TiVo.

Ramsay and Barton wanted TiVo to be a user-friendly system. It was their goal to give consumers control over their television programs. The invention of TiVo would give consumers more time and ability of watching their television shows.

At the Consumer Electronics Show in January of 1999, TiVo was introduced. Shortly after the show Ramsay set a goal within his company that the first TiVo digital video recorder would be shipped on March 31, 1999. Although all odds were against them, the company achieved this goal and named the first digital video recorder model blue moon.

economic invention7 A Statutory Invention Registration Ties Your Invention to You

know how16 Innovation Transferring Know How

This is intended to be an outline of a system that will allow Innovation know-how such as knowledge, behaviours and cultural attributes to be transferred from a standalone or bolt on Innovation project and disseminated throughout the host organisation. Knowledge can be thrown like a stone into a pond and the ripples will then spread at their own speed across the pond.Organisations are not as fluid as our metaphorical pond but it is possible for knowledge to spread through the creation of Innovation Action groups that are not dissimilar to quality circles and action learning groups. They do, however, have some fundamental differences. They are: not unique, they have boundary spanners that overlap they can multiply, rather like human cells they are not confined to improving quality or modifying behaviours they act as catalysts and are not just suggestion boxes or talking shops they are bi directional, ‘ripples’ can travel both inwards and outwards they do not rely on technology So how is it done? Well the minute details are secret but the recipe is as follows. Select a number of Innovation Ambassadors and ensure that they have… More >>
