Miracles & Magic works with organizations that want to put their mission into action and with community leaders who want to breathe new life into their communities. Principals are W. Steele Smith, Jr., AeD. and Marilyn Sprague-Smith, M.Ed. The award-winning firm specializes in helping people and organizations get better results by emphasizing the human side of continuous improvement initiatives.

When organizations partner with Miracles & Magic, they receive four cornerstones to lay the foundation for their success:

  • Discovery - By using researched, reliable tools, Miracles & Magic helps clients gain a heightened awareness of "what is" - both strengths and opportunities for enhancement.

  • Partnership - Miracles & Magic works with clients to strengthen relationships with the families served, community collaboration partners and staff within the organization.

  • Action - Process facilitation helps clients generate an action plan anchored in mutually agreed upon goals and outcomes.

  • Accountability - Using built-in feedback and evaluation mechanisms, Miracles & Magic helps clients know "Am I getting the measurable results I want?" If yes, a repeatable process for continuing success is documented. If no, formative data is used to make necessary changes.
Through consulting, training, speaking and facilitation services, Miracles & Magic brings to each client the necessary tools to achieve desired results with more clarity, more cooperation, more commitment and more capacity to serve.

Selected consulting, training and facilitation experience includes five years as management consultants and trainers for the North Carolina Head Start Learning Center. The College of Education and Human Development Alumni Society of the University of Minnesota awarded Marilyn Sprague-Smith the 2003 Larry Wilson Award citing this project as a demonstration of education excellence. The award is presented annually to an outstanding educator in a non-school-based setting.

Miracles & Magic principals are members of the cadre of consultants used by the Western Kentucky TASC for services to at-risk Head Start programs; three years conducting self-sufficiency training for Head Start staff and two years managing the North Carolina NAEYC Quality Enhancement initiative, both initiatives funded by HHS Southeast Region Office of ACF as special projects.

In addition, Miracles & Magic has been the contractor of choice for design, development and delivery of early childhood education quality enhancement initiatives for many North Carolina Smart Start Partnerships, a national award-winning model for innovation in early childhood quality. The principals of Miracles & Magic have also developed and delivered workshops on Adult Learning Theory Best Practices at Regional and National Conferences, including the National Training and Technical Assistance Conference in Washington, D.C.

Marilyn has earned the prestigious Distinguished Toastmaster Award, the highest designation presented by Toastmasters International to a member for demonstrating excellence in communication and leadership. In 2001, she was awarded the Helen Yandle Award as the outstanding Toastmasters Club President in North Carolina. Marilyn is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow.
