Statutory Invention Registration Does Not Give One Financial Rewards
Now that you have gotten yourself an invention, the question is what do you want do with it? Do you want to make money out of it or do you want others to know about your invention so they can benefit from it? You have to be clear on your goals because the answers will lead you to whether you are going to get a Statutory Invention Registration or a patent for your invention.
There are some inventions and ideas that have not been patented and have been used for the greater good such as the biodiesel. Anybody can make a homemade biodiesel for fuel because somebody thought of it and filed for a statutory invention registration. Thus, people were informed of this fact and now everybody benefits from it.
In just the same way, there are also some inventions that are tied with the inventor. Meaning, people will not be able to make use of the invention without the permission of the owner, unless of course, people have bought the product legally. If there is any attempt to reproduce the product without the permission of the owner, the owner has the right to do any legal action to protect his or her rights.
So if you have an invention, think long and hard what you want to do with it. If you plan to gain financial rewards from your invention, get a patent. However, if you want others to benefit from your invention without gaining any money from you, get a statutory invention registration. It is your invention and you can do anything you want with it.
